On New Year’s Day, I woke up, let’s just say “after 9am” and leave it at that. Waking up itself should be celebrated. I got up telling myself “ok, the plan was to wake up and run so….?”…and I mean literally. If I plan to run first thing in the day, I just wake up, drink my combo of warm water with a squeeze of lemon and a dash of apple cider vinegar, put running gear on and I’m out the door. I then fully wake up as I’m running. I have to prepare said running gear the night before as brain is not awake enough to get the combination together.
So on this fairest of days, freezing cold I’ll add for a Texas clime (but sunny, yayyy Texas!), and the warmth of the duvet beckoning, I go into dialogue with myself. “Get on with it….you said you would run…..it’s a NEW YEAR for goodness sake….maybe I should just lie here and you know reflect on the plan for the year……yeah the plan to RUN, duh……I can run anytime ok, I am the boss of me, what do I have to prove by running today…..are you kidding me? Think of all the kettle corn you consumed last night”.
Yes I talk to myself. I’m Gemini so really, it’s like I’m two people. Really. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. For the uninitiated, kettle corn is sweet and salty popcorn. A decadent delight of delicious crunchiness. Oh my kryptonite.
But I digress. As I get dressed, layer after layer, I put my headphones on as I tie my shoe laces, I don’t even want to stop to put music on. Any hesitation etc etc. The song “Hall of Fame” by The Script, Irish pop rock band featuring will.I.am, comes on. It starts playing and I’m singing and humming out loud, I start to dance (still hyping myself, I found out it was 21 F / -6 C outside, what the…). My thoughts go along the lines of……
Cue Hall of Fame (the lyrics)
Yeah, you can be the greatest, you can be the best You can be the king kong banging on your chest You can beat the world, you can win the war You can talk to God, go banging on his door You can throw your hands up, you can beat the clock You can move a mountain, you can break rocks You can be a master, don't wait for luck Dedicate yourself and you gon' find yourself Standing in the hall of fame (yeah) And the world's gonna know your name (yeah) 'Cause you burn with the brightest flame (yeah) And the world's gonna know your name (yeah) And you'll be on the walls of the hall of fame
Titi: I’m bopping my head, yayyy music, I like it, I’m motivated, do a jig, do a jig. Eh eh. I can be the GREATEST! I can break ROCKS! The things you do to convince yourself.
You can go the distance You can run the mile You can walk straight through hell with a smile
Titi: Oh yes I can!!!
You can be the hero You can get the gold Breaking all the records they thought never could be broke Yeah, do it for your people, Do it for your pride How are you ever gonna know if you never even try?
Titi: I can be a hero. Don’t try me!!!
Do it for your country Do it for your name 'Cause there's gonna be a day.. When you're standing in the hall of fame (yeah) And the world's gonna know your name (yeah) 'Cause you burn with the brightest flame (yeah) And the world's gonna know your name (yeah) And you'll be on the walls of the hall of fame
Titi: Do it for your NAME Titi! Ok, ok, I’m convinced, I’ll run. You’ve worked out in worse weather, you’ve done British Military Fitness in the snow, stop your whining and invest in a balaclava my good woman.
Be a champion, be a champion, be a champion, be a champion On the walls of the hall of fame Be students, Be teachers, Be politicians, Be preachers(Yeah) Be believers, Be leaders, Be astronauts, Be champions, Be truth seekers Be students, Be teachers, Be politicians, Be preachers Be believers, Be leaders, Be astronauts, Be champions
Titi: I am a champioooooooooon, I am a champioooooooon

Wow. I am all about the lyrics!! It’s no wonder I had a talent for listening to songs and learning the words. Read Jan 1 post.
This song is about following dreams, never giving up on your dreams, making an impact on the world. Read the WORDS! This definitely gave me the encouragement and push I needed. I put it on repeat and moved to the beat. The thing is, this song is not on my usual running playlist – I have the one, same playlist (this is another story for another day). I guess “the universe” was sending me a message. Make a plan, have a goal and stick to it. Or maybe just – those kettle corn calories will not lose themselves! Hello.
Either way, I was glad I went for the run, as I always am after the event! Even more special on the first day of the year. You can listen to and enjoy the Titi uninterrupted version on youtube or other music streaming platform of your choosing.
And for the stat lovers – 3.02 miles, 30mins, avg pace 10.13. What song moves you?
