MONDAY MOTIVATION!! A smilefit November series
If you really want to do something, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, you’ll find an excuse” – Jim Rohn (American author, philosopher, motivational speaker)
Another week, another Monday! I was inspired by this quote today and I had another burst of inspiration – over the next 7 days, I’ll share some quotes I love, along with a short story. I’m calling it the “smilefit November series”. This will also challenge my creativity….but I have the will!
We are 21 days into the smilefit November fitness challenge “30mins for 30 days – just move””! Keep walking people!! There are studies that say it takes 21 days to form a habit. It will actually take more than that, about 3x more, but it’s good start to habit forming. Good habits! You’re not doing the challenge for me, you’re doing it for you.
Brushing your teeth is a habit. Need I say more?
We all have things we “will” make time for – usually the things we “enjoy” doing, am I right? We procrastinate or just conveniently forget. Or we just say “no, I don’t have the time”. Typically that means we don’t want to do whatever it is. Even though we (may) know it’s good for us. Obviously, I’m generalising…..
Last night I was vacuuming, I had put it off for two days! There are somethings I just find tedious. For other people this might be something they enjoy doing. Whether it’s work or working out, there’s always something! Maybe it’s a form or survey you have to complete, a phone call or clearing out your inbox, or “exercise”. I’ll run tomorrow, I don’t want to drive 30 mins to my workout, I want to finish this report…..those are some of my excuses! But I do always find a way…..because my fitness is part of my lifestyle, it’s a habit.
The photo above shows me at a Spartan “Beast” Obstacle course race, 12+ miles of it, August 2016 in Colorado, US. I didn’t know what to expect in the race but I said yes to it. I’m looking at the photo and I see three people getting over the cargo net in three different ways! We are all thinking how can I get this done? There’s always a way. I’ve seen someone roll down just to cut seconds off their time!
Think of work or school, how you didn’t know much on day 1…. I bet you cried or complained that you didn’t think you could do it. Several months in and you’re now a star! Ok, maybe that’s just me (hahahaha!). I have a full time job as a management consultant, it’s demanding, it challenges my fitness routine, but I always find a way.
Find your way, create a new way. Rather than think “I can’t”, I always think “how can I”? Whether it’s my work or workout!
How can you walk 30mins each day? In the morning, in the evening, during my lunch break, on a treadmill, with my dog, with my neighbour (what’s the point standing at by fence?). How??!! When? If you have the will, you’ll find a way. If you don’t, that’s fine too. Just don’t blame your shoes or your house keys.
Holiday season approaches, and so will all the eating. It is Thanksgiving this week in the U.S, there will be lots of “dishes” being cooked the “traditional way”. Even when presented with a (slightly) healthier version, some will say that’s how Grandma Dee made it, it’s only one day in the year, you can’t have x without y…etc etc.
How about a walk after your meal then? Even better, announce it to your friends/family as they gather round to eat, and start a new tradition! (Smiley face). Who will be doing this?
Remember…..where there’s a will, there’s a way.
